Sha jahan was the third son of the Mughal emperor Jahangir and the Rajput princess Manbai. His real name was Prince Khurram. Shajahanabad is the new city created by Sha Jahan. The peacock throne was constructed in seven years, decorated with precious and semi-precious stone and surmounted by the figures of two peacocks. It was constructed during the reign of Shah Jahan. Shah Jahan’s reign is often described as the golden age of the Mughal Architecture. Shah Jahn’s eldest son Dara Shikoh was well versed in Sanskrit, Persian and Arabic. He translated the Bhagvat Gita and the Upanishads into Persian.
